Creating in layers

I’m an abstract painter, but I do so much more to my canvases than just apply paint. I apply layers. My empty canvas begins with a simple sketch of something structural, usually done in charcoal. Then I apply paint within that sketch to create the foundation. Next, the other half of my work involves laying down layers of material over that painting. I intend to build it up and then systematically tear it down by selectively removing layers and exposing my design and composition in a whole new way. My paintings are mixed media combined with acrylic paint. My paintings are then etched, sanded and reduced to reveal their hidden histories of what lies beneath the surface. What do you think? ❤️R
